Palavras-chave: benchmark, custo de produção, gestão, rentabilidade Identification and quantification of benchmarks of milk production systemsABSTRACT -The objective of this study was to identify and quantify benchmarks of milk production systems in the region of Extremo Sul da Bahia. Palavras-chave: consumo de FDN, nitrogênio amoniacal, produção de leite, silagem de milho Intake, Apparent Digestibility, Milk Production and Composition and Ruminal Variables of Dairy Cows Fed Sugar Cane Based DietsABSTRACT -Twelve purebred and crossbred Holstein cows were allotted to three 4 x 4 Latin Squares to evaluate the intake, apparent digestibility of nutrients, milk production and composition, ruminal pH and ammonia. The experimental diets were based on corn silage (CS) (AG 1051) with forage:concentrate ratio (F:C) of 60:40, in dry matter (DM) basis, or based on sugar cane (SC) (RB 855536) with F:C of 60:40 with .35 or 1% of urea+ammonium sulfate (AS) mixture or F:C of 50:50 with 1% of urea+AS. DM intake was 17.8, 14.9, 14.4, and 15.8 kg/day, for the diets, respectively. DM intake was higher, resulting in greater nutrient intake for CS based diet, except for the non fiber carbohydrates intake, which showed higher intake for SC based diet with 50% concentrate. Milk production (MP) was higher for the CS based diet, with no difference in MP among the SC based diets, with mean values of 22.0, 19.0, 18.6, and 20.1 kg/day and the 3.5% fat corrected milk prod...
Palavras-chave: cana-de-açúcar, consumo, custos com alimentação, produção de leite Sugar Cane as a Substitute for Corn Silage in Diets for Milking Cows. Palavras-chave: consumo, digestibilidade, pH e amônia ruminais Effects of replacing corn silage with sugarcane on production and ruminal metabolism of lactating dairy cowsABSTRACT -This trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of replacing corn silage with sugarcane on intake, apparent digestibility of nutrients, ruminal pH and ammonia nitrogen, and ruminal passage rate of digesta in lactating dairy cows.Proportion sugarcane increased as follows: 0, 33.3, 66.6 and 100% of the forage portion of the diet. Twelve Holstein and crossbred Holstein/Zebu cows with potential yield varying from 5,000 to 7,000 kg of milk per lactation were randomly assigned to three 4x4 Latin squares. Cows were maintained in individual stalls and were fed ad libitum twice a day a diet containing a forage:concentrate ratio of 60:40 during the 84-days experimental period. Replacing corn silage with sugarcane linearly reduced the intakes of all nutrients with the exception of lignin and nonfiber carbohydrates. No significant effects on apparent digestibilities of dry matter, organic matter and crude protein were observed by replacing corn silage with sugarcane in this trial. However, neutral detergent fiber digestibility decreased and that of nonfiber carbohydrates increas...
