Tubal torsion usually occurs as a part of adnexal torsion that affects an ovary and the adjacent tube; however, isolated tubal torsion is an extremely rare condition. Usually, it presents as acute pelvic/abdominal pain but could also exhibit milder intermittent pain alternating with periods of relief (subacute). This condition has seldom been diagnosed preoperative and commonly results in tubal damage due to delayed management. We hereby, report the findings of two cases managed recently at our center. In both cases, the diagnosis was delayed 2–3 days and was only made intraoperative when the tubes could not be salvaged due to extensive necrosis. The extent of tubal damage is predominantly dependent on the duration of vascular insult; hence, the urgency for affecting early diagnosis and intervention to restore blood supply and preserve tubal integrity and function. We advocate the liberal and early use of laparoscopy in patients presenting with subacute unexplained pelvic/abdominal pain.
Ovarian vein thrombosis (OVT) is a rare serious diagnosis especially if extending to inferior vein cava (IVC). We present a case of 36-year- old female who was diagnosed with right OVT reaching the inferior vein cava following a supra-cervical hysterectomy that was performed in the postpartum period due to excessive bleeding from uterine fibroids. Using the new generation anti-coagulant "rivaroxaban" for six months followed by maintenance regimen of aspirin and sulodexide, complete resolution of the clot was noticed without any adverse event while using this regimen. This is the first OVT case which is completely treated with rivaroxaban without any adjunct invasive modality.
Background
COVID-19 pandemic is a serious health threating element throughout the world. One of the key elements to strengthen the body’s immune system is to follow a healthy lifestyle to deal with health threating. The aim of this study was to evaluate the lifestyle components in COVID-19 patients.
Methods
This descriptive-analytical study carried on hospitalized COVID-19 patients from October 22, 2020 to January 19, 2021. Demographic characteristics, physical activity, nutritional status, stress and anxiety, and substance abuse were assessed. A simple model and multiple logistic regression model were used.
Results
About 32% were hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU). Healthy lifestyle was observed only in 28%. About 82% had insufficient physical activity, and 67.3% was reported to be unfavorable in nutritional status. Severe stress and anxiety were observed in 30.4% of people. There were significant relationships between age (AOR = 2.11, p = 0.036), education (AOR = 0.35, p = 0.002) and a healthy lifestyle. A significant correlation was observed between ICU admission and unhealthy lifestyle (AOR = 0.40, p = 0.015).
Conclusion
Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors were seen in the most COVID-19 patients. Considering the significance of lifestyle changes could prove effective in reducing the risk of transmissible viral infections.
