A lignina subestimou significativamente a digestibilidade. Palavras-chave: casca de soja, farelo de gérmen de milho, fonte de carboidrato, indicadores internos Intake, Total and Partial Digestibility of Diets with Sunflower Meal and Three Energy Sources in Confined SteersABSTRACT -Feed intake, partial and total digestibility and nitrogen balance were evaluated in confined steers. Three crossbreed steers, rumen and duodenum cannulated, were allotted to two 3 x 3 Latin square experimental design. The experimental diets were composed by corn silage (60%) and concentrate with sunflower meal as protein source and ground corn as energy source (MI). The ground corn was partially substituted by soybean hulls (CS) or by corn germ meal (FGM). Lignin and indigestible ADF (iADF), NDF (iNDF) and lignin (i-lignin) determined by 144 h of in vitro digestion were used as markers to estimate the total and partial diet digestibility of diets. The fiber intake was higher on CS diet, however no effect on dry matter intake was observed. Lignin underestimated significantly the digestibility. Indigestible ADF, iNDF and i-lignin was able to estimate total digestibility, however iADF and i-lignina did not estimate adequately the partial digestibility. Ruminal ADF digestibility was influenced by diets with higher values for CS and similar values for FGM, in relation to MI. Total ADF digestibility was higher in diet CS, but the other nutrients digestibility were not ...
Age of dam effect and month of birth effect on nelore's weaning weight in different brazilian regions. The aim of this study was to verify the existence of interaction between age of dam effect and month of birth effect on weaning weight with the studied regions. Records of 333,259 Nelore animals from Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeds (ABCZ) were analysed. The analysis was carried out using the least squares method. Effects of year of birth, sex, farm and interactions between month of birth and region, and age of dam and region were considered. All effects included in the model affected significantly weaning weight. The Northwest, Center-west, Southeast and South regions were compared using Conditional Residual Model to verify differences on month of birth effect and age of dam effect. For all regions, month of birth effect and age of dam effect on weaning weight were statistically significant (P<0,01). The interaction between age of dam and region, and month of birth and region are an important source of variation on weaning weight. To increase the income and to facilitate the handling, breeding seasons should be established for each region.Key words: environment effect, beef cattle, region x age of dam, region x month of birth.
The analyses were done in two stages: firstly, breed and individual and maternal heterosis effects were estimated and after variances and the heritability were obtained for prediction of breeding values of the animals. The breed additive effect seemed to be overestimated when the maternal effect was not included in the model. Estimates of additive and maternal breed effects and individual and maternal heterosis for pre-weaning daily gain were significantly different for the biological types. Direct and maternal heritability estimates from analyses using data adjusted for direct and maternal non-additive effects were respectively 0.22 and 0.20. The maternal breed effect and individual and maternal heterosis should be included in models used for genetic evaluation of pre-weaning daily gain in this composite cattle population.
