SUMMARY Bovine Viral Diarrhoea: Virological studies in a calf with malformations. The bovine viral diarrhoea is the responsible agent of clinical descriptions from non-apparent to serious pathologies including abortion, malformations and premature births. They are related to the cytophatogenic (CP) and noncytophatogenic (NCP) strains. Virologic studies performed on a calf born with malformations (idiocy, abnormal development, timic hypoplasia) are described. The buffy coat samples were processed by isolation and the sera by the MPVIT test and seroneutralization. The results obtained show the virus isolation from both:white blood cells and the serum, and that the serology for antibodies was negative. The isolation of a CP strain from an animal with malformations makes us think that a mutation in the original NCP uterine strain could have been caused by cellular recombinations. Such studies are to be developed in the future.
SUMMARY Antibodies survey against Equine Influenza, on the center-north area in Santa Fe province, Argentine, during the 1997-99 years.A serum analysis of antibodies for Equine Influenza was taken into account. Meaning the Hemoaglutination Inhibition Method, 219 horses were selected to be searchied during 1999 in San Cristobal, north side of Santa Fe, Argentina. Positive results were shown in 52 animals, representing a 23.74% in relation with the total of individuals. These findings were compared to that ones showed in past years, using chí square test (17.30% and 14.95% in 1987 and 1988, respectively). In conclussion, it make possible to say that although the immunity defense experienced some significative statistical differences, it was not enough to interrup hipotetical epizooties.
SUMMARYThe Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVDV) virus causes numerous pathologies that range from reproductive losses to infections of little clinical significance in the bovine digestive tract. Variation have been reported among the strains of the BVDV, which are classified into two biotypes; cytopathogenic (CP) and non-cytopathogenic (NCP), and the viral types I and II. This work describes the pathological findings in a calf with diarrhea and severe thrombocytopenia. The strain isolated (334/3) was molecularly characterized by sequencing of the 5'non-coding region (5' NCR). These analyses revealed 90-98% homologies with reference strains type I strains and the changes associated with BVDV type II, were not found.
