Les coopératives multisociétaires (CMS), relativement récentes dans l’environnement coopératif, sont des coopératives incluant à leur gouvernance plusieurs catégories de membres. Après un bref survol du modèle coopératif et des particularités des CMS, nous présentons les rôles variés que remplissent les membres de soutien en aide au développement de l’organisation. Notre recherche empirique a permis de distinguer quatre rôles principaux des membres de soutien, soit : fournir des ressources (humaines, intellectuelles, matérielles et financières), influencer l’avenir de la CMS de façon formelle et informelle, raffermir les liens entre la coopérative et sa communauté et finalement, constituer une source de légitimité pour la coopérative, en tant qu’incarnation de la dimension sociale de la mission. Ces rôles sont généralement décrits en termes positifs par les personnes interrogées, permettant de mettre en évidence le soutien apporté au développement entrepreneurial de ces organisations. En discussion, nous mettons en valeur les résultats de notre recherche à la lumière de la théorisation autour du modèle coopératif, de la théorie des parties prenantes et de la théorie de la dépendance des ressources. En somme, cet article présente le type d’appui à l’entrepreneuriat propre au modèle particulier des CMS.
