A failure happens within the camshaft of the minibus when the vehicle is in utilize. The camshaft was a fracture within the bearing between the primary cylinder exhaust valve and the second cylinder suction. This simulation aims to find the causes of camshaft failure utilizing the finite element method with a static structural approach, including simulations of deformation, strain, stress, fatigue life (stress-life and strainlife), and cracks. The method used in this paper is the finite element method with a static structural approach by ANSYS software. The camshaft material is a gray cast iron designed using Solidworks. Pre-processing includes meshing with a size of 3 mm. The value of loading force (1348.28 N) and torque (113400 Nmm) are fixed, and the boundary conditions are varied. Processing includes the process of computation and postprocessing into a part that displays the results. The simulation results show that for all the deformation and strain values that are in the elasticity area of the material, the maximum and minimum stress which is below the strength of the material, the location of the maximum values of deformation, strain, and stress is not at the fault location. The simulation of fatigue life both in stress-life and strain-life results in infinite cycles, which is above 10 6 cycles, while the simulation of cracks results in a decrease in the cycle. Based on the simulation results with the above parameters to the camshaft, it was found that a failure was caused by a defect characterized by reduced fatigue life at the same loading conditions.

Coil spring type analysis using the finite element method

Manoeuvre ability and driving comfort are the most important things in the automotive sector. Spring is a fundamental mechanical element that widely used in vehicle suspension applications. Holds loads perpendicular and absorbs shock loads from wheel vibrations so that they are not transmitted directly to the chassis. Therefore, the coil spring was made from a coil of high carbon steel rods in the form of a coil. The purpose of this article was to determine the differences in stress and strain strengths of several different types of coil springs. The types of springs used include the constant pitch spring, variable pitch spring, and barrel coil spring. Various types will be designed using Inventor software while the simulation used ANSYS 19.2 software. ANSYS engineering data used SUP 9 material and was subjected to a load of 6315 N. The results of the analysis showed that among the other three types, barrel coil spring has the lowest equivalent stress and maximum shear stress of 509.72 and 293.41 MPa, respectively, so it has the highest strength.

Computer Numerically Control (CNC) machines are manufacturing machines that are capable of cutting materials with many axes and various types of equipment and operations controlled using a computer. The analysis system used in this software is static structural with linear analysis, because the main focus is to get the value of the stress on the fastening bolts and the stress on the end mill when doing the milling process. The results of the stiffness simulation at the end mill, get the smallest stress results of 0.93783 MPa at a variation depth of feed 1 mm, and get the highest stress results of 5.6272 MPa at a variation depth of feed 6 mm. The result of spindle bolt stiffness simulation shows that the lowest value occurs at 1 mm variation depth of feed, about 1456.4 MPa for equivalent stress, 196.62 MPa for shear stress, and 0.036601 mm for total deformation. Meanwhile, the highest value occurred at the 6 mm variation depth of feed, about 1456.9 MPa for equivalent stress, 196.69 MPa for shear stress, and 0.03664 mm for total deformation. The greater the force that occurs, the greater the stress that occurs on the object, but the stress can also be smaller if the cross-sectional area is larger.
