Higgs Production with Large Transverse Momentum in Hadronic Collisions at Next-to-Leading Order

Abstract: Inclusive associated production of a light Higgs boson (m H ≤ m t ) with one jet in pp collisions is studied in next-to-leading order QCD. Transverse momentum (p T ≥ 30 GeV) and rapidity distributions of the Higgs boson are calculated for the LHC in the large top-quark mass limit. It is pointed out that, as much as in the case of inclusive Higgs production, the K-factor of this process is large (≈ 1.6) and depends weakly on the kinematics in a wide range of transverse momentum and rapidity intervals. Our resul… Show more

“…This p H T -dependent K-factor rises from approximately 1 at small p H T to 3 at a p H T around 50 § Contrary to the convention adopted in Refs. [12,13,14], we use here the classification of perturbative orders based on the total cross section: the p T spectrum starts at NLO. GeV, and then decreases again to about 2.2 at a p H T of 200 GeV, as shown in Fig.…”

“…At transverse momenta p H T of the order of M H the perturbative expansion is reliable, being controlled by a small expansion parameter α S (M 2 H ). NNLO corrections have been computed, in the large-m top approximation, first numerically [12] and later analytically [13,14] § .…”
