The complete genome of Blastobotrys (Arxula) adeninivorans LS3 - a yeast of biotechnological interest

Abstract: BackgroundThe industrially important yeast Blastobotrys (Arxula) adeninivorans is an asexual hemiascomycete phylogenetically very distant from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Its unusual metabolic flexibility allows it to use a wide range of carbon and nitrogen sources, while being thermotolerant, xerotolerant and osmotolerant.ResultsThe sequencing of strain LS3 revealed that the nuclear genome of A. adeninivorans is 11.8 Mb long and consists of four chromosomes with regional centromeres. Its closest sequenced relat… Show more

“…However, after the publication of the genome data for A. adeninivorans by Kunze et al (27), three different genes encoding potential cutinases or cutinase-like enzymes were annotated, and these enzymes could have properties superior to those of the cutinases found in typical host organisms.…”

“…16 The results demonstrated that adenine positively influences expression of all the genes in the pathway except the urea amidolyase gene. Adenine however, does not directly induce the genes.…”

“…1). 16 The degradation starts with the 5'-nucleotidase that hydrolyses purine nucleotides (AMP, GMP, IMP and XMP) to nucleosides and phosphate. Adenosine, inosine, xanthosine and guanosine are then cleaved with purine nucleoside phosphorylase to free purine bases (adenine, hypoxanthine, xanthine and guanine) and ribose-1-phosphate.…”

“…However, complete sequencing of the genome by Kunze et al . () revealed the present of the MAT locus on chromosome Arad1D. The authors discussed the possibility that A. adeninivorans really is an asexual organism, or alternatively, that it is still able to reproduce sexually but the opposite mating strain has not yet been discovered.…”

“…Both were classified into the Trichomonascus clade, which contains anamorphic genera such as Blastobotrys, Candida and Sympodiomyces, but also the ascosporic genera Trichomonascus and Stephanoascus (Kurtzman and Robnett, 2007). It was demonstrated, based on its complete genome sequence data (Kunze et al, 2014), that B. (A.)…”
