Abstract: Many birth defects are thought to arise from a multifactorial etiology; i.e., interaction between genetic and environmental risk factors. The Hedgehog (HH) signaling pathway regulates myriad developmental processes, and pathway inhibition is associated with birth defects, including holoprosencephaly (HPE).
