ZIF-12/Fe-Cu LDH Composite as a High Performance Electrocatalyst for Water Oxidation

Abstract: Layered double hydroxides (LDH) are being used as electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reactions (OERs). However, low current densities limit their practical applications. Herein, we report a facile and economic synthesis of an iron-copper based LDH integrated with a cobalt-based metal-organic framework (ZIF-12) to form LDH-ZIF-12 composite (1) through a co-precipitation method. The as-synthesized composite 1 requires a low overpotential of 337 mV to achieve a catalytic current density of 10 mA cm−2 with a Ta… Show more

“…The surface area of ZIF-67 is higher, i.e., 1183m 2 /g, than that of CuFe-LDH (173 m 2 /g) and ZIF-67/CuFe-LDH(4) (978 m 2 /g) respectively. 37-39 The decrease in the surface area of the heterojunction composite compared to that of pristine ZIF-67 confirms the loading of CuFe-LDH over the pores of ZIF-67 and the successful synthesis of the desired composite.…”

“…This method has been extensively investigated to design membranes or films of different inorganic particles like zeolites, ZnO, and TiO 2 . This synthesis methodology has the advantage of strong bonding between the substrate material and film when compared with other deposition methods due to good chemical bond interactions between the two phases. , Besides, this method is not restricted to the substrate shape, which helps to widen application areas. Several materials have been investigated as substrates to develop LDH films through in situ growth.…”

“…Prior to performing electrochemical tests, 1 M KOH alkaline electrolyte was purged with N 2 gas for 30 min. 28,29 Chronoamperometry measurements were used to determine the long-term stability, and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) experiments were carried out to investigate the current density/overpotential performance parameters at a scan rate of 50 mV s −1 . Impedance (EIS) experiments in 1 M KOH were carried out across a frequency range of 0.01 Hz to 100 kHz.…”
