Zastosowanie wysokich dawek tokoferolu w prewencji i potencjalizacji działania dioksyn w doświadczalnym zapaleniu

Abstract: Emission of toxic and persistent organochlorine compounds into the environment is known to have been recently a very important environmental and health problem. One of the major groups of these compounds is the polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs), commonly named dioxins, including 75 compounds composed of benzene rings with bound chlorine atoms in different positions and quantities. Polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are known to have a similar structure and propertie… Show more

“…Uptake is enhanced by the presence of fats, because dissolved dioxins are absorbed with them from the digestive system and transported to the liver and adipose tissue. Because of their properties, they are accumulated and the body burden of dioxins increases with age in people inhabiting dioxincontaminated areas [42].…”

“…Oxidative stress also leads to the progression of inflammation, as evidenced by elevated levels of proinflammatory cytokines, particularly tumour necrosis factor (TNF), in animals following TCDD exposure. Some authors have linked the proinflammatory properties of dioxins with their toxic effect on the heart muscle and the central nervous system [42].…”

“…Tocopherol deficit in cases of inflammation causes significant oxidative stress, which leads to fibrogenesis [11, 23, 24]. Vitamin E is a compound with strong antioxidative properties, which protects tissues from negative effects of the ROS [15, 25, 26]. Moreover, studies by Kloser et al .…”

“…Dioxins are persistent toxins, with half-lives of 7–8 years in humans. Dioxins are resistant to degradation in the environment, can be transported long distances in the air, and directly threaten environmental and human health (Całkosiński et al 2011; Wrbitzky et al 2001). Dioxins containing between four and six chlorine atoms per molecule, such as 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo- p -dioxin (TCDD), are some of the most toxic man-made chemicals (Goldstone and Stegeman 2006; Stec et al 2012).…”

“…Humans can be exposed to dioxins through skin contact (typically 2% of total exposure), inhaling air (typically 8% of total exposure), and ingesting contaminated water or food (typically 90% of total exposure) (Całkosiński et al 2011). Inhaled dioxins mostly enter the body adsorbed onto particles of smoke and dust that become phagocytized by pneumocytes.…”
