ABSTRACT. This study aims to investigate how university students' information literacy self-efficacy perception is influenced by their Facebook and Wikipedia literacy levels, school year, gender, second language level and weekly Internet usage duration by using decision tree method. The researchers purposefully collected data from 2776 students from 11 faculties of Dokuz Eylul University. The first part of the data collection instrument included questions about university students' characteristics such as Wikipedia and Facebook literacy levels, school year, gender, second language level and weekly Internet usage duration. The second part was related to information literacy self-efficacy. The most important result of the study was that Facebook and Wikipedia literacy rather than university students' other characteristics were the first rank independent variables explaining information literacy self-efficacy. In addition, female students whose Wikipedia literacy level was at an advanced level were 16.4% of the sample and these students had the highest information literacy selfefficacy perception among the sample. SUMMARYPurpose and Significance: Almost all university students in both Turkey and the world use Facebook and Wikipedia to make new friends, find previous friends, share daily life experiences and reach current information announced by instructors and peers from their university. University instructors also use these social media in education to deliver course materials among students, announce course specifications, and help to teach how students can reach up-date information. However, the results of academic use of social media showed that social media usage may cause unexpected negative results among students such as cyber bullying, problems related to privacy and inappropriate behaviors. All these considerations require researchers to conduct more studies on this field. Although the literature indicated the high relationship between social media and information science, researches in this field is still not sufficient. The current study aims to investigate how university students' information literacy self-efficacy is influenced by their Facebook and Wikipedia literacy levels, school year, gender, second language level and weekly Internet usage by using decision tree method.

An increasing number of students are studying abroad requiring that they interact with information in languages other than their mother tongue. The UK in particular has seen a large growth in international students within Higher Education. These non-native English speaking students present a distinct user group for university information services, such as university libraries. This article presents the findings from an in-depth study to understand differences between the search processes of home and international students. Data were collected using an online survey and diary-interview to capture thoughts and feelings in a more naturalistic way. International students are found to have similar information search processes to those of home students, but sometimes face additional difficulties in assessing search results such as confusion when dealing with differing cultural perspectives. The potential implications for information service providers, particularly university libraries, are discussed, such as providing assistance to students for identifying appropriate English sources.

Comparison of three web-scale discovery services for health sciences research*

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative effectiveness of three web-scale discovery (WSD) tools in answering health sciences search queries.Methods: Simple keyword searches, based on topics from six health sciences disciplines, were run at multiple real-world implementations of EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), Ex Libris's Primo, and ProQuest's Summon. Each WSD tool was evaluated in its ability to retrieve relevant results and in its coverage of MEDLINE content.Results: All WSD tools returned between 50%-60% relevant results. Primo returned a higher number of duplicate results than the other 2 WSD products. Summon results were more relevant when search terms were automatically mapped to controlled vocabulary. EDS indexed the largest number of MEDLINE citations, followed closely by Summon. Additionally, keyword searches in all 3 WSD tools retrieved relevant material that was not found with precision (Medical Subject Headings) searches in MEDLINE.Conclusions: None of the 3 WSD products studied was overwhelmingly more effective in returning relevant results. While difficult to place the figure of 50%-60% relevance in context, it implies a strong likelihood that the average user would be able to find satisfactory sources on the first page of search results using a rudimentary keyword search. The discovery of additional relevant material beyond that retrieved from MEDLINE indicates WSD tools' value as a supplement to traditional resources for health sciences researchers.
