Abstract: Microobject manipulation using ultrasonic waves is expected to play important roles in constructing future drug or gene delivery systems. The acoustic radiation force, which is applied to microobjects, traps the objects at the desired position. A microjet, which is produced by bubble explosion under high-intensity ultrasonic waves, creates microholes through the cell membrane (sonoporation), which is considered as a sophisticated method of improving the doses of drugs or genes injected into a tissue. Aiming at… Show more

“…There are many competing micromanipulation techniques being actively researched, including mechanical manipulation using AFM tips [1], optical tweezers [2], dielectrophoresis [3], magnetic traps [4] and acoustic traps [5]. Each technique has distinct advantages and disadvantages, in terms of the degree of force that can be applied or the precision of the particle manipulation.…”

“…[62][63][64][65][66][67] These microbubble agents used for enhancing echo signals in diagnostic US are generally called echocontrast agents. Because cavitation is primarily responsible for causing cellular membrane damage, the size of the bubbles, the affi nity of the bubbles to DNA and the target cells, and the toxicity of the substance and gas that make up the bubbles are important factors in determining the outcome.…”

“…The existence of capsules (or bubbles) improves the introduction efficiency to affect the target area by making use of sonoporation [4]. While the lifetime of the microbubbles is several minutes, we consider the microcapsules are better for use with various types of delivery.…”
