Wide Area Inter-Area Oscillation Monitoring Using Fast Nonlinear Estimation Algorithm

Abstract: This paper presents the results of the development of Smart Grid transmission network applications in the Great Britain (GB) power system. A new Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) application for monitoring inter-area oscillations is developed. The core of this novel application is a fast nonlinear algorithm for the real-time estimation of the dominant inter-area oscillation mode, which processes GPS synchronized information obtained from Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) installed in the power system. It is bas… Show more

“…Also, the rotating inertia can be emulated in grid-connected inverters, thus the rotating inertia is enhanced to ensure power system safety [161]. Thirdly, communication systems, currently used in a number of applications related to monitoring, control and protection [162][163][164], have a great prospect for improving the operation of modern power systems. Moreover, the load frequency control based on the sampled-data control is implemented to reduce the communication burden [165].…”
