Where Anthropogenic Activity Occurs, Anthropogenic Activity Dominates Vegetation Net Primary Productivity Change

Abstract: Anthropogenic activities and climate change affect the type, structure and function of ecosystems, resulting in important changes in vegetation net primary productivity (NPP). Therefore, in this study we used the vegetation photosynthesis model (VPM) to reveal the spatiotemporal variations in NPP in Xinjiang from 2000 to 2019. The impacts of climate change and anthropogenic activities on NPP changes were quantified and separated by the residual analysis-control variables (RES-CON) method. The results showed th… Show more

“…Overall, human activities have a negative impact on the NPP in the Yangtze River Basin, which is consistent with the research by Xie C.H. and others on the correlation between human activities and NPP [40]. The main trend of the land use change in the study area was the transfer from land use types with higher NPP to those with lower NPP, resulting in a loss of NPP.…”

“…In this area of research, much of the literature focuses on the identification and estimation of the NPP, as well as its temporal and spatial variations; additionally, some research has attempted to identify the driving forces contributing to these variations [20][21][22][23], such as the factors of climate change and human activity [24][25][26]. However, several constraints have impeded the breadth and depth of analyses in earlier studies.…”

“…Furthermore, anthropogenic activities affecting lake ice phenology were not addressed in this study. However, anthropogenic activities are also important factors affecting climate change, as anthropogenic global warming is best estimated at 1.07 • C [3], which has a significant impact on terrestrial systems [41,42]. Finally, the anomalous relationship between latitude, lake area, and FUD is difficult to explain, probably because of the high salinity of lakes in Central Asia.…”
