Abstract: Abstract:The main objective of this study was to examine the relationships between wet meadow plant communities of Molinon alliance and their environmental conditions in Slovenia. The ecology of these communities was analysed in detail. The study provides the data on the vegetation and environmental parameters, the significance of parameters for the plant species composition, most important environmental gradients and differences between plant communities. In all plots the vegetation was recorded and soil para… Show more

“…It needs to be emphasized that pH is important determinant of species composition in grasslands [11] while potassium is an important soil variable limiting or colimiting vegetation growing on soils that can dry out [73]. It can be interpreted that P sampling overestimated the role of potassium due to the constant avoidance of sites invaded by Calamagrostis epigejos or Solidago gigantea.…”

“…With this approach, only homogenous and well-developed patches of vegetation are sampled, while those considered "atypical" are simply omitted by the researcher [7,8]. Accordingly, discrete vegetation types are recognized and the researcher aims to explore the environmental differences among these types [9][10][11][12]. In preferential sampling, the researcher's perception of the vegetation and the scale of the study can influence the way in which the environment-vegetation relationships are analyzed [13].…”

“…In this study, we used the Ellenberg's indicator values (soil moisture, N content, pH) to assess the habitat conditions that are associated with particular types of plant communities. These indicators are widely used to describe habitat conditions and changes and are considered by many authors to be the most important factors determining wet grassland species composition [53,[61][62][63][64]. Presumably, the changes in moisture conditions documented for our study area induced changes in the vegetation and encouraged the development of plant communities of the Filipendulion alliance.…”

“…2002). In order to understand better the ecological circumstances in the studied vegetation, DCA was performed in the CANOCO 4.5 program; values of micro-topography (relative height in cm) and altitude were passively projected onto the diagram plot and the correlation between these values and the main ordination axes was calculated (ter Braak & Šmilauer 2002;Zelnik & Čarni 2008a). Life forms and lifespan traits were determined according to Davis (1965Davis ( -1985, Davis et al (1988) and Pils (2006) and the number of plants with an individual life form in an individual cold hole was correlated with the micro-topography using a nonparametric Kendall coefficient in STATISTICA version 8.0 (Anon.…”
