“…10 Potentially, greater weight loss increased participants' confidence to achieve their goals, increasing the likelihood of feeling positive about the program, immersing themselves in the process, and ultimately completing the program, in line with evidence that those who set more ambitious GHS goals achieved more weight loss. 24 Equally, when participants start achieving their goals, their motivation to continue with the program may shift from needing extrinsic motivation (relying on their coach) to being more intrinsically motivated. 12,25 The individually tailored nature of the coaching program, which encourages positive coachparticipant rapport and constructive goal setting, was perceived as positive.…”

“…9 Health coaching may have accounted for the observed behavior change (self-monitoring) through goal setting as previously reported. 5,10 The improvement found in the Mindful Eating Questionnaire makes us further speculate that increasing self-awareness through chestjournal.org monitoring food, in addition to checking daily steps and measuring weight, could explain the success of our intervention. Compared with other interventions targeting weight loss in people with obesity and chronic lung disease, our intervention is the first to our knowledge to possibly improve breathlessness, eating awareness, and all domains of quality of life beyond the minimal clinically important differences for the CRQ.…”

“…The service aims to support people to modify unhealthy behaviours; increase physical activity levels; make healthy dietary changes; reduce alcohol consumption; and achieve and maintain a healthy body weight 48 49. There is evidence that the GHS is effective in reducing BMI, and waist circumference, and improves eating behaviours and physical activity in the general population 49 50…”

“…Calls are usually made bimonthly for the first 3 months (n=6) to help facilitate behaviour change, with remaining calls tapering off for the following 3 months. Average call duration is 13 min 49 50. Patients can graduate early from the GHS if they complete five coaching calls and meet their health goals.…”
