“…Both jellyfish species richness and zooplankton density were the lowest during pre‐summer monsoon sampling. High waves may be the underlying factor for the depletion of jellyfish and non‐gelatinous zooplankton assemblages during this sampling period (Thomasen, Gilbert, & Chow‐Fraser, ). The sea during the pre‐summer monsoon was characterized by high waves in the Gulf of Oman (Sanilkumar, Pathak, Pednekar, Raju, & Gowthaman, ).…”

“…This study was conducted at a site known as “Lake Erie Farms” (42.651469, −80.567886), a 69 ha former agricultural field that produced tobacco and rye grain, and more recently corn and soybean, from 1925 until 2006. Lake Erie Farms is located in southwestern Ontario just north of Long Point, an area that has received numerous natural heritage designations and is a globally recognized biodiversity hotspot (Thomasen et al ). This area is part of Ecoregion 7E, colloquially known as the Carolinian Life Zone.…”

“…Lakebed sediment resuspension has been shown to be dominated by wave-generated shear stress during large storm events [Schwab et al, 2006]. Approximately 3% of the coastline in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore of Lake Superior is designated as wetland [Kraft et al, 2007], which is significantly affected by wave exposure [Thomasen et al, 2013]. Last but not least, lake trout are economically important species that preferentially spawn in a threshold of elevated wave disturbance or turbulence [Fitzsimons and Marsden, 2014].…”
