“…Although the broad range of offences tried by the Courts of Great Sessions paralleled those found in English assizes, with indictments for larceny dominating in both (Howell, 2000; Humphreys, 1996; Minkes, 2005; Powell, 1990; Walliss, 2018), 4 the former was notable for a high proportion of indictments for forms of non‐fatal violence and riot.
