Abstract: A vitrectomy was performed in 30 eyes suffering from different forms of uveitis. An improvement of visual acuity was obtained in 29 cases and was explained by removal of vitreous haze and/or of the cataract, but not by the improvement of the inflammatory process.

“…We and others have demonstrated the beneficial effect of pars plana vitrectomy on the course of intermediate uveitis [2,5,12,17,18,19,23,24,25,28,35,36,38]. It is possible to clear optic media with this technique, but its role in positively influencing CME has not been clearly identified.…”

“…All of them were anecdotal and subjective, however, and had the common shortcomings of a small number of cases, mixture of different disease entities, and short-term follow-up. 2,3,[9][10][11][12][13][14]16,26,27 In our study, VA improvement was gained by 60% of the patients. In another study by our group using sutureless combined 25-gauge vitrectomy, phacoemulsification, and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation for management of selected patients with uveitic cataract associated with posterior segment disease, final VA was 20/100 in 12 eyes (63.2%) after a minimum of 12 months of follow-up.…”
