The objective of this review was to investigate the effect of vitamin D3 supplementation on serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration in individuals with single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the vitamin D receptor gene. The research was conducted on 241 articles found in the PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Cochrane Library databases between November and December 2018. After article screening, three randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trials were identified as eligible for this review. Participants were Australian, Brazilian, and Chinese individuals, who ingested doses of vitamin D 3 ranging from 2000 IU to a megadose of 200,000 IU. The presence of the BB/Bb genotype of the BsmI polymorphism and the FokI G allele caused an increase in the serum concentrations of vitamin D after supplementation. Nonetheless, the few studies on this subject are not unanimous in their results. It is possible that differences among populations, sample sizes, doses, and time of supplementation have an impact on data and outcomes.

Previous studies have not been able to show with certainty the effect of vitamin D supplementation in tuberculosis patients. The objective of this study is to determine whether vitamin D supplementation to patients with tuberculosis could influence 25hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and calcium serum levels. The results, after 28 days, the vitamin D supplementation showed significant increase of 25(OH)D serum level at the end point (p=0.001), but not for the calcium serum level (p=0.3). The Conclusions is supplementation with 1,000 IU vitamin D per day increased the 25(OH)D serum level but there was no association with the calcium serum level.Abstrak. Penelitian sebelumnya belum dapat menunjukkan dengan pasti efek suplementasi vitamin D pada pasien tuberkulosis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan apakah suplementasi vitamin D pada pasien dengan TB dapat mempengaruhi 25hydroxyvitamin D (25 (OH) D) dan tingkat serum kalsium. Hasilnya, setelah 28 hari, suplementasi vitamin D menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dari level serum 25 (OH) D pada titik akhir (p = 0,001), tetapi tidak untuk level serum kalsium (p = 0,3). Kesimpulannya adalah suplementasi dengan 1.000 IU vitamin D per hari meningkatkan kadar serum 25 (OH) D tetapi tidak ada hubungan dengan kadar serum kalsium.

BACKGROUND:Herniated Nucleus Pulposus (HNP) is the prolapse of the intervertebral disk through a tear in the annulus fibrosus. This causes nerve root compression with clinical pain manifestation and affects the quality of sleep.AIM:The aim of this study was find out the comparison in the quality of sleep between before (pre) and after (post) surgery cervical HNP patients.METHODS:This study was a retrospective cohort study. Ninety patients were asked to complete the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. All data which has been computed were analysed with the McNemar test.RESULT:The outcome reveals that from 90 patient`s cervical HNP, 81 (90%) were 40 years old age group and 66 (73.3%) of them were women. The result showed that 66 (73.3%) patients have a bad sleep quality before surgery. Surgery has increased the quality of sleep after surgery 66 (73.3%) patients had good sleep quality. There was a significant difference in the quality of sleep pre and post operation (p = 0.001).CONCLUSION:There was a significant difference in the quality of sleep between pre and post operation cervical HNP patient utilising anterior discectomy methods.
