A “Hidden” Deficit in Central Vision in Diabetic Pan‐retinal Photocoagulation Patients

Plotting isopters in this way, however, gave little information about central visual function, because the narrowest isopter falls about 10" out from the center of vision.…”

“…As with earlier studies (Frank, 1975) the results with these patients vary from one patient to another. However, even from this small sample, the results indicate that this adaptational deficit may warrant consideration as a serious visual disability within this population.…”

Long‐term visual results after laser treatment of proliferative diabetes retinopathy in childhood onset diabetes

“…McDonald & Schatz (1985) found in 175 eyes with proliferative diabetic retinopathy a loss of t w o or more lines in 25% after PRP and the most common cause of this was chronic macular edema, occurring in 14 (8%) eyes. Frank (1975) and Schulenberg et al (1979) also found constriction of the visual field after PRP. In order to minimize the harmful effect of the laser treatment in eyes with only NVE, we have used focal laser treatment as the initial procedure.…”
