Abstract: Loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) is the final common end point for many optic neuropathies, ultimately leading to irreversible vision loss. Endogenous RGC regeneration from Müller cells presents a promising approach to treat these diseases, but mammalian retinas lack regenerative capacity.
