Viscosity Measurements of CaO–SiO2–CrO Slag

Abstract: The viscosities of CrO-containing slags obtained using high temperature equilibrium technique were measured by the rotating cylinder method at 1 823 to 1 948 K (1 550 to 1 675°C). The slag viscosity decreased with increasing CrO contents. CrO also exhibits a strong basic character in slags, and can act as a network modifier to depolymerize the slag network structure in CaO-SiO 2 -based slags. The dependence of the slag degree of polymerization (DOP) on the CrO content further validates these observations.

“…24,25) Figures 5(a) and 5(b) shows that NBO/T and Λ corr of slag increases with increasing CrO content, reflecting that the DOP of slag gradually decreases with increasing CrO content, which is consistent with the dependence of slag viscosity on CrO contents. NBO/T and Λ of CaO-SiO 2 -CrO (R = 0.5) slag under similar conditions calculated by Wu et al 26) are also plotted here and the effect of w(Al 2 O 3 /SiO 2 ) ratio on viscosity and NBO/T is shown in Fig. 5(c).…”

“…[45][46][47][48][49][50][51] From the FTIR analysis, the existence and estimated depth of the trough at specific wavenumbers can be assigned to the silicate and borate structural units. The non-bridged oxygen per tetrahedral cation (NBO/T) and in particular the ratio of Q 3 /Q 2 can be correlated with the DOP, as described previously.…”

[45][46][47][48][49][50][51] From the FTIR analysis, the existence and estimated depth of the trough at specific wavenumbers can be assigned to the silicate and borate structural units. From the Raman analysis, a more quantitative analysis through deconvolution of the spectra and subsequent area fraction analysis can reveal the amount of structural units present in the fluxes.…”

“…5(a), 5(b). NBO/T and Λ corr of CrO-bearing slag under similar conditions calculated in previous work 22,23) are plotted here. The addition of Al 2 O 3 reduces both NBO/T and Λ corr of slag while the addition of MgO increases them.…”
