Vertical Continuous Meniscal Suture Technique

Abstract: Meniscal injuries are common in the population, representing the major cause of functional impairment in the knee. Vertical longitudinal injuries of the meniscus can be stable or unstable. When extensive, they are commonly unstable and can lead to clinical signs of significant functional disability. Vertical longitudinal injuries have the best prognosis for repair, especially when occurring in the meniscal periphery, called the red-red zone. A recently developed type of meniscal suture device called Meniscus 4… Show more

“…It is a line of research that involves a type of meniscal suture called continuous meniscal suture. [18][19][20][21] In the absence of a laboratory with human cadavers, training with animal models becomes an important method to assist in the training of these and other new arthroscopic surgical techniques.…”

“…Considering repair approaches, different suture types can be adopted 69 , 75 77 and biological approaches (augmentation techniques) can also be used in combination to enhance the healing response (augmentation by platelet rich plasma (PRP) and platelet rich fibrin (PRF) clot derivatives 78 , 79 ; trephination, abrasion, and rasping; wrapping 80 , 81 ). The main drawback with conventional suture techniques relays on long operating time and difficulties in surgery.…”

“…2,24,25,28 Recently, 2 modified inside-out meniscal suture techniques, the vertical and horizontal continuous meniscal repair, were described by our author group. 26,27 We developed the continuous meniscal suture technique to simplify the surgical technique of inside-out meniscus repair and minimize the time required to perform it. 26,27 Several studies have evaluated the different types of meniscal sutures biomechanically in animal models 3,9,11,22,31 and cadaveric knees.…”
