“…Analyzing the reasons, the seizures of epilepsy are related to the impaired balance of excitability and inhibition of the central nervous system. As a classic AED, sodium valproate can interfere with the synthesis (promotion) and degradation (inhibition) of the inhibitory neurotransmitter γ -aminobutyric acid to reduce neuronal excitability and inhibit epileptic seizures but it also has the risk of causing adverse reactions such as tremor, hair loss, vomiting, and constipation [ 19 , 20 ]. Oxcarbazepineand levetiracetam are new AEDs.…”

“…Hair repigmentation is a possible but rare side effect of some drugs that may present with bothersome hair graying or desirable hair repigmentation like chloroquine and cancer chemotherapeutic agents as the mejor prevalent reports. Changing of hair color also has been reported by use of p-aminobenzoic acid, calcium pantothenate, anthralin, chinoform, mephenesin, minoxidil, propofol, valproic acid, and verapamil [2][3][4] .…”

“…Similarly, cosmetic side effects such as hair loss, color changes and curling of hair have also been reported in VPA-treated patients. 41 To strengthen the predictive validity of the Clock delta19 mouse as an animal model for BD, future studies should examine whether the Clock delta19 mouse also emerges cosmetic side effects following treatment with VPA. In addition, the mechanisms of action of VPA are still not fully understood.…”
