Validity, reliability, and sensitivity-to-change properties of the psoriatic arthritis screening and evaluation questionnaire

Abstract: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is an inflammatory arthritis associated with irreversible joint damage in a subset of individuals. There is a need to screen early for this condition to prevent damage. To meet this need, we have developed the psoriatic arthritis screening and evaluation (PASE) questionnaire. The 15-item PASE questionnaire was administered to 190 individuals with either psoriasis or PsA. The PASE questionnaire was readministered to a subset of individuals with PsA in order to assess test–retest reliab… Show more

“…A total score of 47 or greater has been shown to identify PsA with high accuracy 13 14. We observed a positive association between PASE score and the 28-joint disease activity score (E. Soriano, personal communication, 2012).…”

“…We confirmed the diagnosis of PsA by using the psoriatic arthritis screening and evaluation (PASE) questionnaire, which includes both symptom and function scales 13 14. A total score of 47 or greater has been shown to identify PsA with high accuracy 13 14.…”

“…Screening tools like the Toronto psoriatic arthritis screen (ToPAS), Psoriatic arthritis screening and evaluation (PASE), and Psoriasis epidemiology screening project (PEST) questionnaires have been developed for screening for psoriatic arthritis in patients with psoriasis [43][44][45]. Our data also suggests that patients with psoriasis may benefit from more formal screening so that early interventions exist for patients suffering from mood or psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety.…”

“…In a recent study, Walsh, et al 1 sought to compare 3 published, validated screening tools for psoriatic arthritis (PsA): the Psoriasis Epidemiology Screening project (PEST), the Toronto Psoriatic Arthritis Screen (ToPAS), and the Psoriatic Arthritis Screening and Evaluation (PASE) 2,3,4,5 . We would like to address how PASE may not have been appropriately compared in this setting.…”
