Aims (a) To explore nurses’ self‐assessed competence and perceived need for more training in primary and tertiary healthcare services; and (b) to investigate the factors associated with these issues. Design Quantitative, cross‐sectional, descriptive. Methods The ProffNurseSAS, the Job Satisfaction Scale and socio‐demographics were used. A convenient sampling method was used to invite registered nurses from 23 primary ( N = 104) and tertiary care wards ( N = 26). Results Five significant differences in self‐assessed competence were identified, with none regarding the perceived need for more training between nurses working in primary versus tertiary health care. Nurses in primary health care had longer experience, and a larger proportion had continuing education. Nevertheless, this was not associated with either self‐assessed competence or the perceived need for more training. Years of experience, training or reported job satisfaction was not associated with the items on the ProffNurseSAS. Conclusion Findings indicate that nurses’ competence is same in primary and tertiary healthcare settings. Moreover, the findings of this research highlight areas that need further improvement and emphasis from both leaders and educational institutions when they attempt to ensure nurses’ competence.

Standardized laboratory testing is normally used for characterization of building materials and components. In real life, especially when assessing buildings in terms of water-damaged building materials, built-in moisture, rising damp or other problems, information on the hygrothermal state of the constructions may be relevant, but is often sparse. This paper presents a study where application of a newly developed non-destructive experimental method is used to measure the relative humidity (RH) at the surface of four types of building materials. Knowing the RH at the surface, a risk assessment of fungal growth can be made. The materials include concrete, brick, aerated concrete, and gypsum, with and without a surface treatment. The method is based on the idea of establishing a water vapor transport towards equilibrium within a small air volume in contact with the surface of interest. In the laboratory the specimens were conditioned at respectively 65 % RH and 90 % RH in a climate chamber, and then transferred to conditions with 50 % RH. The open side of a Petri dish, equipped with a temperature and relative humidity sensor, was attached to the materials using reusable adhesive. The development of the relative humidity over time within the petri dish was monitored and parameterized mathematically, solving an exponential rate equation. The parameterization and certain sets of assumptions allow among other things a calculation of time to equilibrium which makes it possible to assess the reproducibility and comparison in between materials. As the materials were tested with and without surface treatment, it was possible to estimate the effect of a typical surface treatment on the moisture transport. The measurements compared well to simulations made by a model, though the model predicts slightly faster achievement of equilibrium. Despite the limited number of cases in the current study, the presented results are promising with regards to enable rough estimates of RH at the surface of building materials outside the laboratory with a very simple, inexpensive, and non-destructive method.

This study aims to examine the direct effect of nurses’ emotional intelligence (EI) on their job satisfaction, as well as the indirect effect through the mediating role of job stress (JS). The sample consisted of 365 nurses working in Lebanese hospitals during the COVID-19 period. The results revealed that EI elements (Self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness and relationship-management) had a significant positive effect on nurses’ job satisfaction. The existence of the negative mediation of job stress between the four EI skills and attitudes was found. The generalizability is limited to the Lebanese registered nurses in hospitals. Future research needs to incorporate other samples like the private nurses. A comparative study to provide further clarify the effect of EI and JS on the nurses at different levels is needed. This study extends research on organizational behavior to Eastern culture by examining the direct effect of EI on attitudes as well as the indirect effect through the mediating effect of JS which was not previously tackled. It suggests that the four skills of EI have a significant positive effect on nurses’ attitudes. It emphasizes the full mediation role of JS. The obtained results indicated that hospitals can increase job satisfaction bettering the employees’ EI.
