Vacuum Infusion Simulation for Radome Manufacturing Using Woven Flax Fibre and Glass Fibre

Abstract: The vacuum infusion method is emerging to produce composite parts, especially thin wall structure aircraft radome. Ansys Fluent is used in the optimization phase for mould filling analysis on aircraft radome part. The permeability fibre is referring to the physical property of the fibre reinforcement to allow fluids to permeate it, thus it is correlated with the viscosity of the resin used. In this work, flax fibre, glass fibre and low viscosity epoxy resin are used to determine the permeability value of flax… Show more

“…Generally, there are several researchers conducted analysis on the UAV' structure material such as aluminium [31], fibre glass [13], carbon fibre [13], 3D printed multi-material composite [28,32], Jute fibre composite [33], sandwich composite materials [9], and composite skin for UAV [15]. The study on flax fibre and hybrid fibre presented the filling time using simulation hence assists any future researchers to fabricate the using respective materials [34]. Natural fibre application has gain serious attention in the recent engineering trends due to green concept composite.…”

“…Reinforcement, matrix, and interface phases make up most composite materials which have benefits of high specific strength, high specific modulus, and great designability [6]. Different manufacturing techniques for reinforced composites include hand lay-up, filament winding, molding, pultrusion, melt mixing, and other molding processes [7].…”
