Show more

“…The high percentages of physical integrity of seeds through the analysis of X-ray images, and seed germination for both Populus species, are consistent with those reported by Javorski & Moure (2017) and Javorski et al (2018) who indicate a significant relationship between physical integrity and germination percentages. Gomes-Junior et al (2013) and De Medeiros et al (2018) obtained similar results for a wide variety of species in different genera.…”

“…Damage by predation was probably more frequent in the cotyledonary regions and did not reach the embryonic axis, and thus, the germination process could occur. In contrast, Javorski and Cicero (2017) show that damage caused by insects observed by the X-ray test in sorghum seeds was closely related to losses caused to germination in seed lots, since the damage compromised a considerable part of the seeds, including vital regions such as the embryonic axis, resulting in seed death.…”

“…Alvarenga and Marcos-Filho (2014), in their turn, were able to identify differences in cottonseed vigor during storage. The efficiency of this system was also proved for several other species, including peanuts (Marchi et al, 2011;Barbosa et al, 2016), super sweet corn (Alvarenga et al, 2012), wheat (Silva et al, 2012), beans (Gomes Junior et al, 2014), soybeans (Wendt et al, 2014), sunflower (Rocha et al, 2015), and sorghum (Javorski et al, 2018). When evaluating lots of sweet corn after their physiological conditioning, Gomes Junior et al (2009) observed a relation with other typically used tests.…”
