A pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar a prevalência de infecção do trato urinário durante a gestação e destacar as principais bactérias contaminantes por trimestre. Foi realizado um estudo transversal, analítico e retrospectivo com avaliação de resultados de uroculturas por trimestre gestacional em banco de dados de um laboratório em Caxias do Sul, RS, Brasil em 2014. Foram avaliados resultados de urocultura de 432 gestantes por trimestre, totalizando, 1296 analises. Observou-se 12,89% de crescimento bacteriano, sendo a Escherichia coli o agente predominante (98,20%). Durante a gestação, 25,46% das pacientes tiveram pelo menos um caso, sendo o primeiro trimestre o de menor frequência (8,33%). Infecções do trato urinário no período gestacional são comuns, principalmente por Escherichia coli. As possíveis complicações reforçam a necessidade de campanhas de prevenção, além da realização de urocultura ao longo do período gestacional para garantia de saúde da gestante e proteção do feto.Descritores: Infecção do Trato Urinário; Gestante; Prevalência; Bacteriúria; Trimestre Gestacional. Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) are mainly caused by the presence and growth of microorganisms in the urinary tract, which are the single commonest bacterial infections of all age groups and especially in pregnancy. The main objective of this study is to determine the Prevalence of UTI among pregnant women and complications in their newborns. An observational study was carried out over a period of 6 months. A total of 120 pregnant women were enrolled .UTI was diagnosed based on urinalysis reports. With the help of data collection form demographic data were collected. Out of 120 pregnant women, 35% of them had urinary tract infection. It is mostly observed high in age group of <25yrs, Primigravida, winter season and during Third trimester of pregnancy. The commonest causative organism was found to be E.coli (50%).The weight of newborn infants of mothers afflicted with UTI were significantly not lowered compared to newborns of healthy women. The prevalence rate of urinary tract infection (UTI) during pregnancy is high. So it is important to do routine screening of all pregnant women for significant bacteriuria to reduce the complications on both maternal and fetal health.

Background and aims: This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the pregnant women and the associated risk factors in Shahrekord, Iran. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 832 pregnant women were examined up to 26 to 30 weeks of pregnancy and their UTIs were studied. The required information was collected by examining the health records of pregnant women and completion of the data registration forms. All statistical analyses were performed in SPSS 23.0 using chi-square and independent t test. Results: According to the results of this study on 832 participants, 109 of them were diagnosed with UTI, and prevalence of UTI was recorded to be 13.1% in this study. There was a significant relationship between urinary infection and variables of delivery, pregnancy severe vomiting, genitourinary problems, infertility, and blood group. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, screening and treatment of UTIs have been on time and appropriate in health systems of Shahrekord city which have led to the reduction of infant and maternal diseases. Even in the conditions that there is no UTI, continuing the process for screening and treatment is recommended.
