Uric acid to HDL cholesterol ratio is a strong predictor of diabetic control in men with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract: Aim: Despite it has some disadvantages, the most important marker of diabetic control is glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Uric acid to HDL cholesterol ratio (UHR) is a promising marker in metabolic syndrome. We aimed to compare UHR levels of well and poorly controlled type 2 diabetic male subjects, as well as healthy men, and to observe its correlation with other metabolic parameters. Methods: Male patients with T2DM that showed up in outpatient internal medicine clinics of our hospital were enrolled to the study.… Show more

“…There are other studies in literature reported association between increased UHR and various clinical conditions. Serum UHR has been suggested as a valuable predictor of diabetic control in men with type 2 diabetes mellitus [11]. Moreover, plasma glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels were found to be correlated with UHR levels [11].…”

“…NFκB is involved in pathological brain inflammation and is associated with the expression of proinflammatory cytokines [ 26 ]. These proinflammatory markers are elevated in patients with type 2 DM, including C-reactive protein [ 27 ], neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio [ 28 ], platelet/lymphocyte ratio [ 29 ], uric acid/HDL ratio [ 30 ], and mean platelet volume [ 31 ]. Our study showed hs-CRP was higher in MCI diabetics compared to non-MCI diabetics.…”

“…In diabetic patients, poorly controlled diabetic subjects have lower HDL compared to the well-controlled diabetic patients. 22 Meanwhile, HDL of the subjects with diabetic nephropathy have lower levels of HDL compared to the diabetic patients without diabetic nephropathy. 23 These findings were considered to be associated with increased inflammatory burden.…”
