“…In this context it is worth mentioning that the Ag-NHC complexes, similar to their gold counterparts, have played an important role in realizing the catalytic potential of silver with the Ag-NHC complexes carrying out many important transformations like, ethyl diazoacetate (EDA) assisted carbene transfer reactions [22], catalytic preparation of 1,2-bis(boronate) esters [23], transesterification reactions, ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide [24,25], etc. Apart from catalysis, the Ag-NHC complexes are however long known for their role as effective transmetalating agents for synthesizing transition metal complexes of N-heterocyclic carbenes and have contributed significantly to the growth in this area [20,21].…”

“…[98] From this seminal work, the introduction of NHC ligands in the coordination sphere of group 11 metals (Cu, Ag, Au, Scheme 44) was found to improve the performances of the catalytic systems both in terms of conversions and chemoselectivities. [99] Scheme 44.…”

“…Because of the great stability acquired by the metal complexes, N-heterocyclic carbenes have also emerged as a promising family of ligands for the design of efficient homogeneous catalysts [25]. In collaboration with Peris et al, our first attempt to perform the catalytic diboration of alkenes with metaleN-heterocyclic carbene complexes was carried out with the thermally-and air-stable compound [(mentimid) 2 Ag]AgCl 2 , (mentimid ¼ 1-methyl-3-(þ)-methylmenthoxide imidazolium chloride) [26] (Scheme 9). Among the terminal alkenes we studied from the point of view of catalytic BeB addition, we observed that diboration/oxidation to styrene with [(mentimid) 2 Ag] AgCl 2 provided the single product 1-phenyl-1,2-ethanediol with 76% of conversion ( Table 3).…”
