Abstract: Chemoselective stepwise coupling between living polymers and a heterobifunctional linking agent is shown to be a versatile, facile, and efficient methodology for block copolymer synthesis. This protocol is based on the quantitative formation of the end‐functionalized precursor in the first coupling step. In this proof‐of‐concept study, we investigate the behavior of specific macroanions, prepared through living anionic polymerization (LAP). Nevertheless, the applicability range is becoming exceptionally wide u… Show more

“…The PS-b-PFDMS diblock copolymer was synthesized by sequential living anionic polymerization in glass reactors equipped with break-seals for the addition of the reagents (Scheme 1). [8,11,22] First, styrene was polymerized in cyclohexene at room temperature using the required amount of sec-BuLi. After completed conversion (%12 h), a solution of FS in cyclohexene was added by smashing the breakseal of the corresponding ampoule.…”

“…Then, an equal volume of tetrahydrofurane (THF) was added in order to promote the FS propagation from the ferrocenyllithium-based macroanions. [8][9][10][11] After stirring for a further 2 h, the reaction was terminated with degassed methanol. The raw product was isolated by precipitation in hexane.…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5] Star-shaped polymers, which are composed of multiple polymer chains emanating from junction points, have received significant attention over the past decade. Because of their unique three-dimensional shape and highly branched structure, starshaped polymers have shown lower viscosities than linear polymers of the same molecular weight.…”

“…In this regard, we reported recently a proof-of-concept study about facile BC synthesis through chemoselective stepwise coupling between living polymers, prepared via LAP, and heterobifunctional coupling agents. [16] As depicted in Scheme 1, this synthetic strategy consists of two distinct coupling steps. The profundity of this protocol is based on the quantitative formation of the Y-endfunctionalized precursor in the first coupling step, where a macroanion reacts chemoselectively with a slight excess of a heterobifunctional electrophile.…”
