This study aims to analyze cost efficiency's performance when producing university outputs from 45 public universities in Indonesia. A stochastic cost frontier multiproduct with six key performance indicators and annual public spending was used as the output and input for the analysis. This study finds that cost efficiency's score is high, compared to one in a previous study. Higher education using the Public Service Agency management pattern has the highest efficiency score compared to establishments with Work Unit and Legal Entity management patterns. This study has several implications; first, the need for effective management patterns; second, the re-evaluation of the privatization policy; and third, improvement in education's output or input.

Background Child allowance payment is one form of social security policy that aims to mitigate the child poverty gap by providing financial support to families. This study aimed to explore the impact of the child allowance on children’s physical and mental health (BMI, problem behavior, depression, and self-rated health), and parental investment in child health (children’s material goods, family events, extracurricular activities, interaction with children, and involvement in child maltreatment). Methods We used cross-sectional data from the 2016 Kochi Child Health Impact of Living Difficulty (K-CHILD) study. Participants were 1st, 5th and 8th grade children living in Kochi prefecture in Japan (N = 8207). Caregivers reported children’s child allowance status, BMI and behavior problems, while children filled out a self-assessment on depression and health condition. Propensity score matching analysis regarding potential confounders was used. Results We found that children in families that received child allowance showed a smaller total difficulties score by 1.29 points (95% CI: − 2.32 to − 0.25) and a lower risk of overweight (OR: 0.51, 95% CI: 0.29 to 0.91) although there is no association with underweight, prosocial behavior, depressive symptoms and self-rated health. Parental investment did not differ by child allowance status (p > 0.05). Conclusions Child allowance was found to be potentially beneficial in decreasing behavior problems and reducing child overweight. Further longitudinal studies are needed to elucidate how child allowance is used by family members and associated with children’s well-being. (230/350 words)

Esta Tesis se estructura en tres capítulos que tienen como eje vertebral la literatura de los modelos colectivos de consumo. El Capítulo 1 deriva las restricciones necesarias para cumplir con la condición de agregación colectiva y presenta un marco conceptual general para modelar precios sombra individuales. El Capítulo 2 se propone abrir la «caja negra» de las familias argentinas, tal de identificar la distribución de recursos dentro del hogar entre adultos y niños, y explorar las implicancias sobre el bienestar infantil. El Capítulo 3 aborda un vínculo poco explorado en la literatura entre las transferencias monetarias y el comportamiento distributivo intra-hogar, que se basa en la premisa de que los beneficios otorgados a los padres alcanzarán a los niños dependiendo de las transferencias dentro del hogar. El trabajo realiza aportes tanto teóricos como empíricos a una literatura que, si bien acumula tres décadas de contribuciones, aún se encuentra en continuo crecimiento. Aún más, pese a la relevancia de la temática, la evidencia previa para Argentina era inexistente en tanto la evidencia para América Latina es muy escasa y se encuentra en su etapa más inicial.
