Abstract: Objective: This retrospective study aimed to analyze the ultrasound (US) imaging features of solitary papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) located in the isthmus and to assess the risk factors for lymph node metastasis (LNM) and tumor capsular invasion. Methods: We included a total of 135 patients with solitary PTC located in the isthmus. All the cases underwent US, total thyroidectomy, and prophylactic central lymph node dissection. Patients' demographic and thyroid isthmus nodules' US characteristics, as well a… Show more

“…Luo et al. ( 30 ) suggested that TCI and patient age do not correlate (p=0.863). Our study fits with the findings of Luo et al., that is, age may not be associated with TCI (p=0.245).…”

“…Effective risk stratification based on the evaluation of clinicopathological risk features is important for appropriate treatment of DTC patients to balance treatment, such as surgical benefits and complications ( 6 , 7 ). This can be referenced in the American Thyroid Association’s guidelines (6th, 7th, and 8th versions) on the management of DTC ( 5 , 8 , 9 ).…”

“…Features associated with malignancy include solid composition, a hypoechoic nodule, a lobulated or spiculated margin, 2 ETE, microcalcification, absence of a halo, a nodule shape "taller than wide," and increased vascularity 9 . On the other hand, larger volume 10 and size 11 , and the location of the nodule in the isthmus 4,[12][13][14] have been associated with ETE. There are few reports regarding the association between ultrasonographically detected ETE and lymph node metastasis 6,11,[15][16][17] .…”

There are few reports regarding the association between ultrasonographically detected ETE and lymph node metastasis 6,11,[15][16][17] . This study analyzed ultrasonographic features of thyroid nodules with ACR TI-RADS criteria in patients with papillary thyroid cancer and defined their association with histopathologically confirmed local lymph node metastasis.…”
