Tympanoplasty With Calcium Phosphate

Abstract: \s=b\In 35 patients, with an average follow-up period of 2\m=1/2\ years, the middle ear was reconstructed with prostheses of hydroxyapatite, which is the main substance of living bone tissue. In case of a missing incus, an interposition prosthesis of dense hydroxyapatite was used. Defects in the bony posterior canal wall were reconstructed with a canal wall prosthesis of porous hydroxyapatite and cavities with a barefoot plate were reconstructed with a total alloplastic middle-ear implant, consisting of a cana… Show more

“…HA is a natural component of bone tissue and shows high biocompatibility. It is still used in clinical practice and has proven itself in the time test (12,16). Choi et al reported the extrusion rate as 6.7% (12).…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…HA [Ca 5 (PO 4 ) 3 (OH)] is a natural constituent of bone and seems to exhibit superior properties when compared with bioactive ceramics that were introduced in 1981 [11]. It is still being used worldwide and has so far stood the test of time.…”
