Two Chiral Nonlinear Optical Coordination Networks Based on Interwoven Two-Dimensional Square Grids of Double Helices

Abstract: Two new chiral two-dimensional coordination networks, ZnL2(H2O)2 (1) and CdL2(H2O)2 (2) [L = 1,2,2-trimethyl-3-(pyridin-4-ylcarbamoyl)cyclopentanecarboxylic acid], have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single X-ray structure analysis, featuring very unusual interwoven (4,4) square grids of double helices. The frameworks exhibit high thermal stability as confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis and powder X-ray diffraction studies. The unique chiral networks attributed to the chiral organic lin… Show more

“…In general, adequately directed rigid bidentate ligands form such structures [25]. On the other hand, flexible bidentate ligands easily form grid-like [26][27][28], interpenetrating and helical [1,29] structures. Flexible bidentate ligands forming grid-like structures can show tunable porosity [26][27][28], chirality [1,29] and dynamic porosity [30].…”

“…During the past decade, considerable attention has been paid to inorganic materials with chiral framework of nanoscale and microscale structure, not only because of their excellent physical and chemical properties and numerous potential applications in nonlinear optics, chiral sensing, enantioselective catalysis, and separation, but also owing to their intriguing variety of architectures and topologies . Among these studies, chiral semiconductor materials are extraordinarily important because of their various energy gaps, which enhance their absorption ranging from ultraviolet to near infrared region.…”

“…As mentioned above, the existence of odd-even effects on cell 40 parameters such as axis lengths, beta angles, cell volumes and space group obviously occurs with the length of carbon chain in ester groups (Fig. 2a-d).…”
