Twist expression in patients with cervical cancer is associated with poor disease outcome

Abstract: Objectives: To retrospectively assess the influence of radical surgery following concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) on outcomes in cervical cancer (CC) patients. Methods: Patients diagnosed with cervical squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma (FIGO stages IB2 to IIB) at the Yinbin Second People's Hospital between September 2008 and September 2013, were included in this study. Patients were classified into 2 groups based on the treatment received: surgery group (CCRT plus radical surgery) and non-surgery gr… Show more

“…Additionally, increased expression of Twist and reduced expression of E-cadherin are correlated with poor differentiation and local invasion. Twist and E-cadherin are statistically significant prognostic factors in several types of cancer (28)(29)(30)(31)(32).…”

“…The immunoresponse was also identified as an important prognostic factor for survival in cervical cancer (2). B7 family members and their receptors are crucial in the regulation of antigen-specific immune responses (3).…”

“…Elevated Twist-1 expression is correlated with a poor prognosis and high risk of metastasis in breast, prostate, ovarian, cervical and many others human cancers (Elias et al, 2005;Kwok et al, 2005;Mironchik et al, 2005;Kyo et al, 2006;Puisieux et al, 2006;Hosono et al, 2007;Shibata et al, 2008). Recent reports suggest that high levels of Twist-1 confer cancer cells resistance to various chemotherapeutic drugs (Pham et al, 2007;Zhang et al, 2007;Shiota et al, 2008).…”
