Treatment of Crystal Violet from Synthetic Solution Using Membranes Doped with Natural Fruit Extract

Abstract: Innovative polymer membranes with and without natural fruit extract (rosehip) are characterized in terms of their ability of treating a solution containing Crystal violet by a three‐compartment laboratory scale electro‐dialysis cell. Electro‐dialysis is performed at different time intervals and using a constant voltage of 15 V. The dye removal percentage (%) and energy consumption are calculated. The highest value of dye removal is obtained for 90 min (>96%) for membranes doped with natural fruit extract. Wate… Show more

“…At the final of the electrodialysis process with three compartments, as a result of the transport process, the solution from the central compartment will be diluted in pollutants, and the solution from the anodic compartment will be enriched/concentrated in pollutants [ 14 , 17 , 18 , 19 ]. Electrodialysis has been successfully applied at the laboratory scale and at the industrial level for treated waters and wastewaters containing contaminants and products, such as: heavy metal ions [ 14 , 17 , 18 ], acids [ 19 ], dyes [ 16 , 20 ], and organic matter [ 16 , 19 ]. The wastewaters may come from different industries, such as: chemistry [ 18 , 19 , 20 ], (bio)chemistry [ 21 ], food processing [ 22 ], pharmaceutical [ 18 , 21 ], mining and refining [ 15 , 17 , 22 , 23 ].…”

“…In this work, we were interested in the study of the dye crystal violet (CV) belonging to the family of cationic (basic) dyes. CV is an organic compound of the raw formula C 25 N 3 H 30 Cl (Figure 1) soluble in water, with a molar mass equals to 407.979 g mol −1 , it is widely used as dye for food and textile industry [6,[42][43][44][45][46]. CV was chosen as dye model for its high solubility and its absorbance by UV/Vis spectrometry.…”
