Traversable Wormholes with Exponential Shape Function in Modified Gravity and in General Relativity: A Comparative Study

Abstract: We propose a novel shape function, on which the metric that models traversable wormholes is dependent. With this shape function, the energy conditions, equation of state and anisotropy parameter are analyzed in f (R) gravity, f (R, T ) gravity and general relativity. Furthermore, the consequences obtained with respect to these theories are compared. In addition, the existence of wormhole geometries is investigated.

“…Godani and Samanta [81] studied traversable wormhole in f (R) gravity for two specific forms of shape functions and found wormhole structures are filled with phantom fluid. Samanta et al [82] defined an exponential shape function and compared the validity of energy conditions in f (R) and f (R, T ) theories of gravity. Recently, Godani and Samanta [83] and Samanta and Godani [84] found the satisfaction of energy conditions for a wide range of radial coordinate in the context of traversable wormholes in f (R) gravity.…”

“…However, it is also known for long that there are classical ways as well to circumvent the problem of exotic matter that violates the energy conditions [18][19][20][21]. One such way is the framework of large class of the so-called modified theories of gravity.…”

“…An analytical approach is used to get the wormhole solutions in f (R, T ) gravity [68]. An exponential shape function is defined for wormholes and a comparison is made between f (R, T ) and f (R) gravity for the rationality of energy conditions [69]. Wormholes are studied for two types of varying Chaplygin gas and found the violation of dominated and null energy conditions in f (R, T ) gravity [70].…”
