Tratamiento del glaucoma congénito

Abstract

The treatment of pediatric glaucoma is usually complicated in this population due to the visual immaturity of pediatric patients. Its basic pathophysiology shows an abnormally high intraocular pressure that causes the production of optic nerve damage and the consequent visual loss in infants and young children. Various and current pediatric glaucoma treatments have been explored in this document. These include; Surgical treatments, Latanoprost, selective alpha-2 agonists, levobetaxolol, brinzolamide, topical versus oral therapy of carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, dorzolamide, TTC with releasable saturations, antimetabolites and cryotherapy cycle. The article reviews the literature that focuses on current studies in relation to congenital glaucoma in pediatrics. A cross-sectional study in the most recent established and verified research on the treatments studied has been analyzed and discussed. Most of these treatments focus on reducing production and reducing intraocular fluid pressure. Medical treatments are preferred in relation to surgical and treatments such as Latanoplast, brimonidine, brinzolamide, Levabetaxolol, dorzolamide and antimetabolite and increased filtration may release surgery have proven to be safe and effective depending on the type of pediatric glaucoma. It is noteworthy that, the success of current pediatric glaucoma treatments depends largely on early diagnosis and effective and adequate control of IOP. Specific treatment is determined by the nature and type of glaucoma present and in most cases, both medical and surgical treatments are preferable.
