Abstract: Transportable energy storage systems (TESSs) have great potential to enhance resilience of distribution systems (DSs) against large area blackouts. A joint post-disaster restoration scheme for TESS and generation scheduling in microgrids (MGs) and network reconfigurations is proposed to minimize the total system cost, including customer interruption cost, generation cost, and TESS related costs. A temporal-spatial TESS model which is related to both transportation networks and DSs is proposed to represent the … Show more

“…Like our work, the scheme presented by Reference [11] can be scalable to different power systems topologies. The concept of Transportable Energy Storage System (TESS) is utilized by Reference [12] during the investigation of the proposed resiliency metric. The authors of this paper proposed a post-disaster recovery scheme that involved the scheduling process of the TESS, and, in turn, generated resources in MGs to meet cost reduction purpose.…”

“…Unlike the aforementioned works, as far as our knowledge, our work introduces a new framework for determining the resiliency of MG systems. This is done by taking into consideration various aspects as opposed to just one aspect (e.g., the recovery time proposed by References [8,12], and the fraction of load unaffected by distortion used by Reference [11]). Our proposed framework is more general as it includes the aspects of voltage sag percentage, load served, recovery time, and time to reach the power balance state.…”

“…The service restoration methods proposed in the literature inlcude optimal crew assignment problem [2,3] and deployments of mobile generators [4]. In [5], the service restoration of distribution network with transportable energy storage is also investigated wherein transportable energy storage is proposed to be transported over railway networks to support different islanded areas of a degraded distribution network. The authors assume pre-defined outage scenarios, which neglect the uncertainty and wide variety of outage scenarios that can occur due to hurricane events.…”
