Transcriptome analysis of Sonneratia caseolaris seedlings under chilling stress

Abstract: Sonneratia caseolaris is a native mangrove species found in China. It is fast growing and highly adaptable for mangrove afforestation, but suffered great damage by chilling event once introduced to high latitude area. To understand the response mechanisms under chilling stress, physiological and transcriptomic analyses were conducted. The relative electrolyte conductivity, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, soluble sugar content and soluble protein content increased significantly under chilling stress. This indica… Show more

“…In maize, these molecules have been found to induce cold acclimation, resulting in a higher tolerance to low temperatures [ 39 , 40 ]. The fluctuation of plant hormone signal transduction during cold treatment seems a common phenomenon, as found in many other plants [ 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 ].…”

“…Mangrove communities have a key role in the intertidal zones in tropical and subtropical regions by providing the habitat for various organisms and ecosystem services including economic and ecological values 25 , 3 , 20 , 33 , 37 , 49 . Mangroves mitigate floods and storms, and provide food, wood, and medicines for daily human life 2 , 50 . With their adaptation to high-salinity environments, susceptible to fluctuations in sea level and climate, mangrove forests provide an ideal model system for the study of adaptive evolution 15 , 47 , 48 .…”
