Traffic signal coordinated control optimization: A case study

Abstract: In the urban traffic network, intersection is the "bottleneck point" of road network capacity. And the arterial is the main body in road network and the key factor which guarantees the normal operation of the city's social and economic activities. The rapid increase in vehicles leads to seriously traffic jam and causes the increment of vehicles' delay. Most cities of our country are traditional single control system, which can't meet the need for the city traffic any longer. In this paper, Synchro6.0 is used a… Show more

“…If signals at intersections are 800 meters apart along a road then these signals should be coordinated [1]. Several studies in the literature have been found to focus on coordinated signal design [8][9][10][11][12]. However, no studies have been found to explore the scope of traffic signal coordination for intersections in Sylhet city.…”

“…Clough Harbour and Associates (2012) concluded that the improvements in the signal timing of the two coordinated corridors in the study area (Onondaga County New York, USA) were effective in improving traffic operation along the corridors. Pengdi et al (2012) demonstrated that the linear control (Green Wave) system reduced intersection delay and increased traffic capacity by improving the LOS at each intersection along the arterial road. Li et al (2013) pointed out that the optimization of the signal timing plan using the C++/CRL algorithm is efficient in improving traffic flow at oversaturated intersections.…”

“…The results can assist the usage of signal control and further educate traffic police during critical periods along with reducing travel time for each vehicle on the road network [10], [11]. Moreover, since Sathorn district can be considered as CBD in Bangkok, there are huge daily incoming flows every working-day morning.…”
