“…Previous neuroimaging studies of youth and adults with BD provide similar findings regarding WMT and activity abnormalities during emotion processing. Studies reported that individuals with, and at risk for, BD have abnormally low ACC activity (Blumberg et al, 2005;Chan et al, 2016;Dolcos et al, 2011;Phillips et al, 2003;Phillips et al, 2008) and fiber collinearity in the forceps minor (Benedetti et al, 2011b;Chaddock et al, 2009;Emsell et al, 2013;Haller et al, 2011;Jenkins et al, 2016;Ji et al, 2017;Nortje et al, 2013;Versace et al, 2014;Versace et al, 2010b;Wang et al, 2008b). Our findings add to this literature by showing that, in OBP, lower fiber collinearity in the forceps minor was associated with lower activity to happy faces in the rACC.…”

“…At the same time, BD patients have greater MD in the cingulum, corpus callosum, corona radiata, internal capsule, tapetum and occipital white matter including posterior thalamic radiation, inferior longitudinal fasciculus/inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (Lu et al, 2011 ). Numerous follow up studies confirmed these data (Lu et al, 2012 ; Emsell et al, 2013 ; Sprooten et al, 2016 ; Ji et al, 2017 ). Similar, but more subtle white matter microstructural changes were detected in unaffected siblings as well (Sprooten et al, 2013 , 2016 ).…”

“…DTI studies report on reduced fractional anisotropy in the cingulum, internal capsule, posterior corpus callosum, tapetum, and occipital white matter (Lu et al, 2011 , 2012 ; Emsell et al, 2013 ; Sprooten et al, 2016 ; Ji et al, 2017 )…”

“…ROI-based analysis requires a priori delineation of white matter regions, which can be challenging for smaller regions (Mukherjee et al, 2008), while voxel-based methods can be complicated by inaccuracies with registration algorithms using tensor datasets (Mukherjee et al, 2008) and have been shown to be very sensitive to differences in processing parameters (Jones et al, 2005). Recently, TRACULA (TRActs Constrained by UnderLying Anatomy), an automated probabilistic tractography toolbox within Freesurfer (Yendiki et al, 2011), was used to segment 18 major white matter tracts in BP and showed decreased FA in multiple tracts, including the superior longitudinal fasciculus, cingulum, and corticospinal tracts (Ji et al, 2017; Sprooten et al, 2016). To our knowledge, TRACULA has not been previously used to investigate white matter tract abnormality in SZ.…”
