Towards UML representation for BPMN and DMN models

Abstract: Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a standardised Object Management Group (OMG) notation among software engineers. There have been many attempts to design alternatives to UML. Recently, new notations such as Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) and Decision Model and Notation (DMN) have been proposed for modelling processes and decisions. These dedicated notations provide a simpler way of capturing functional requirements in a designer-friendly fashion. Moreover, some concepts as rules cannot be directly… Show more

“…The design of telemedicine solutions has been done ignoring socio-technical requirements analysis [82] and a comprehensive understanding of the delivery process [83,84]. Only recently the care delivery service has been designed on the basis of use cases of more complex care needs [85,86] (see [87] and [88] Luzi for the cases of asthma and long term ventilation).…”

“…According to some authors [3,22,23], the two most used methods for visual representation of a business system model are Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) and Unified Model Language (UML). It is also stated that diagrams using the UML standard are easy to perceive by managers in organizations that do not always have the technical background [24,25]. Due to its wide application possibilities and variety of visual objects, UML is one of the preferred languages for modeling information systems among software developers.…”

“…Likewise, another study [42] presented a method for translating business models such as BPMN and DMN (decision model and notation) into a set of consistent UML models (which can be later used by business analysts and developers for understanding and implementing the system). As a single-notation design, this allows users to take advantage of software that supports UML modeling and consistency checking.…”
