Towards a City's Systems Integration Model for Smart City Development: A Conceptualization

Abstract: Smart city development is a response to address the issues of urbanization and need for flexibility and agility in delivering services to citizens. City as a complex system of systems needs to be efficient, inter-operable, and integrated. Thus, similar to systems integration in enterprises, integration of city systems provides flexibility and access to real-time information for creation and delivery of efficient services. In addition, Business Process Change is essential for systems integration in smart city d… Show more

“…The vision of digital transformation of cities aims to use smart technologies to achieve seamless data exchanges between various system deployed for city services (Costin and Eastman, 2019). Hence, system alignment and data integration are important for digital transformation of cities (Javidroozi et al , 2015). Accordingly, system alignment is the ability for two systems to recognize one another and to use resources from one another (Heaton and Parlikad, 2019).…”

“…Cities are not only a carrier of production and residents' life, but also an important protector against hazards (Godschalk 2003;Lhomme et al 2013). A city can be regarded as an integrated system, consisting of many sub-systems such as building systems, medical systems, transportation systems and government management systems (Javidroozi et al 2015). The effective operation and cooperative work of these systems ensure the normal function of a city.…”
