“…She found that whereas schizophrenics could be distinguished from both nonschizophrenic groups on three of six measures of neuromotor functions and on one of six subscales of an attentional abilities test, schizoaffectives could not be distinguished from patients with other affective disorders. Walker expresses agreement with the conclusions of Pope et al (1980) and Rosenthal et al (1980).…”

“…Despite the methodological differences, our results support previous findings that psychosis and suicide attempts are familial. 52,53 Likewise, suicidal ideation, comorbid panic disorder, and age at onset showed moder-ate levels of familiality in this study (although the P values did not withstand conservative correction).…”

“…To some authors, the schizoaffective category is but a subgroup of mood disorders: Pope et al (1980) studied over a 5-year period 3 samples of schizo-affective, schizophrenic and manic depressive patients, and could not find a way to discriminate between a schizo-affective disorder associated with manic symptoms, and the manic disorder itself. Abrams and Taylor (1976) reached the same conclusion with their sample (n = 88), and so did Rosenthal et al (1980). However, some differences in family variables between the 2 categories (schizo-affective versus manic depressive disorders) have recently been considered (Maj and Perris, 1985).…”
