Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is the second most frequent autoimmune disease in childhood. The long-term micro- and macro-vascular complications of diabetes are associated with the leading causes of disability and even mortality in young adults. Understanding the T1D etiology will allow the design of preventive strategies to avoid or delay the T1D onset and to help to maintain control after developing. T1D development involves genetic and environmental factors, such as birth delivery mode, use of antibiotics, and diet. Gut microbiota could be the link between environmental factors, the development of autoimmunity, and T1D. In this review, we will focus on the dietary factor and its relationship with the gut microbiota in the complex process involved in autoimmunity and T1D. The molecular mechanisms involved will also be addressed, and finally, evidence-based strategies for potential primary and secondary prevention of T1D will be discussed.

There is great interest in the interaction between diet and immune system and concomitantly in the potential of probiotic bacteria, especially given recent advances in understanding of gut microbiota effects on health in the context of microbiome research. Following our recent study on bacterial wall elasticity as a predictive measure of phagocytic cellular reactions and related outcomes, a question was raised regarding the scope of the application of these findings in various medical conditions in the context of predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine (PPPM). This summarizing review of the data describes the contributions, both observed and potential, of probiotics to the gut-brain axis and various medical conditions, including immune and atopic states, metabolic and inflammatory diseases—including liver disease and diabetes mellitus—cancer, and more. It also suggests novel insights for a number of beneficial applications of probiotics and advances in development of novel probiotic-based treatments and personalized diets, as well as application of sophisticated imaging techniques and nanobiotechnologies that can be adopted in the near future by innovative medical experts, warranting further research and practical translation.

Резюме. Вступ. Цукровий діабет (ЦД) 1-го типу призводить до розвитку та несприятливого клінічного пере-бігу хронічних запальних захворювань, у тому числі і лор-органів. ВступДисбіоз кишечника -це клініко-лабораторний синдром, в основі якого є зміни якісного і кількісного складу мікрофлори кишечника з розвитком метабо-лічних та імунологічних зрушень, які на тлі цукрового діабету (ЦД) 1-го типу призводять до виникнення, роз-витку та несприятливого клінічного перебігу більшості захворювань, у тому числі і лор-органів [2,5,6].Слизова оболонка верхніх дихальних шляхів є пер-шим захисним бар'єром між навколишнім і внутріш-нім середовищем людини. Її стан разом з функціональ-ною спроможністю слизової оболонки товстої кишки визначають ризик виникнення захворювань як лор-органів, так і організму загалом.
